The Iowa caucus is officially over and the winners were Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee. The democratic race was close and the polls were leaning towards Obama, but Huckabee came from way back being outspent in the state nearly 20 to 1 by Mitt Romney. This will increase the political battle and the attack ads will certainly heat up. Obama in reports has always stated that becoming President was not a life long goal, but thanks to aggressive journalism a paper that was written by Obama in kindergarten contradicts this point.

We just had the unfortunate luck of having to reconfigure our servers that host some of our blogs and websites. We were asked to download some SQL files to our hard drive and the reload them back to the main server. In a proposed deal with Verizon wireless the ability to bring new fresh content to users cell phone is getting some attention. The fight to gain new customer in the cell phone market is fierce. Just this past weekend I saw an ad for a free Motorola Razr Phone, plus $200 back to be used in store for your purchases. With this new deal, subscribers of Verizons V Cast service will be able to view YouTube videos that have been selected by Verizon.

This helps Verizon in the lure of content for it’s customers and increases the customer base for YouTube. This agreement will allow Verizon to be the only mobile phone company to carry distribute YouTube videos for a limited time. While I have not seen the videos on a phone, I can imagine there may need to be some work done as the videos are generally not high in quality. Taking into account that you will now be viewing those on a small 2 inch screen, will be interesting to watch. I guess you don’t need high quality when you are watching a shrimp run on a treadmill.

I believe that with this new partnership, others will blossom. The one company that will allow their customers to use their phones video capacity, and be able to upload videos to YouTube or other video sharing services will be a huge winner. I am sure the technology exists, it is just matter of having the right phone, and the right provider.

Every year my wife and I always look at each other about this time and ask “What do you want for Christmas?” We know that now we have kids our presents usually consist of a card and something small and spend the bulk of money on the kids. This has never been an issue since we usually end up buying items we want through out the year. Before you travel during the holiday season make sure that you have a backup plan as what happened last year could reoccur and leave passengers stranded during the holiday season. You have specific rights as a passenger that airlines are not eager to tell you about so you need to ask for those passenger rights and make sure that they give you what you are entitled too.

Last year we completed a trip for the holidays and we were one of those families you saw on TV stranded in Denver, as airlines were trying to dig out of the mess that the blizzard left behind. It seemed that everyone we talked to with the airline failed to remember that we were traveling during Christmas and they felt that there was no special assistance to help those who’s flights had been canceled any additional help. We were told that we would not be able to get out of Denver until December 27.

That was not going to work, so we started going to gates of flights that were scheduled to depart and go on standby. Luck was on our side as the first flight we approached put us on the plane, and we were on our way. What is frustrating is that the airlines, did not see to it that were booked on that flight, but that the standard response was that there were no flights. So in your travels do not take what the operator tells you, and take your fate into you’re own hands.
